SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports a suspect has been arrested and charged following a crash involving an SBPD patrol vehicle on Wednesday night.

Police say on Wednesday around 11:50 p.m., Officer DeVonte Spratt turned northbound onto Olive Street after completing a traffic stop near Tucker Drive.

The report states that's when 19-year-old Jesus Briano, who was traveling south, slid across the center line, striking Spratt's patrol vehicle head-on.

Airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Briano suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

Spratt was evaluated for a hand injury.

While speaking with Briano, authorities detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed him to be unstable on his feet and slurring his words.

Police say Briano declined sobriety tests but was taken to the hospital for a blood draw and medical clearance.

Briano was then taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

Through a collaboration with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office, Briano has been charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person and Minor Consuming Alcohol.
