NOW: Viral Parody cheers for the Indiana Bears as Illinois lawmakers make final attempts to keep the team

ILLINOIS -- Republican Illinois lawmakers unveiled a new proposal Tuesday aimed at keeping the Chicago Bears in the state by supporting the team's long-discussed stadium development in Arlington Heights.

Under the plan, the Bears would invest $2.5 billion into a new stadium and mixed-use development at the Arlington Heights site, while Illinois would contribute approximately $1.3 billion toward surrounding infrastructure improvements.

Supporters of the proposal say the project could generate an estimated $6 billion return on investment through economic development and tax revenue.

The proposal comes as state leaders continue exploring options to keep the NFL franchise in Illinois amid ongoing discussions about the team's future home.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker indicated he would be open to calling a special legislative session later this summer if lawmakers can reach an agreement on a plan to retain the Bears.

Despite renewed efforts in Springfield, officials across the state line in Indiana remain optimistic about attracting the franchise.

Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott said he continues to welcome discussions about the possibility of the Bears relocating to northwest Indiana.

"This is their decision. It's exciting, though. It really is exciting," McDermott said. "Kevin Warren called me up the other day with a different thought, and I love it. I think it's excellent, and I hope it works."

As uncertainty surrounding the team's future continues, some rival fans have seized on the debate!

A Green Bay radio host recently released a parody song imagining the Bears relocating to Hammond. The song, which quickly gained attention online, pokes fun at Illinois' efforts to keep the team while envisioning a future home across the border.

"Oh, the Bears fans are mad. They're so mad," Haze said. "But there's been some very fun comments that I've seen. A lot of people didn't know that I could sing, too, so it was fun to sing on the air. Packers fans very much love it. Bears fans, not so much.”
