Victims named in Division Street Shooting
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Mishawaka Police Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Division St around 2 O’clock Wednesday Morning for a report of gunshots fired and people screaming.
Upon police arrival several parties were found, including a male and female suffering from gunshot wounds.
The two were rushed to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, where the female victim was pronounced dead.
Wednesday evening, she was identified as 23-year-old Asia Phillip. The male was identified as 23-year-old Tyrees Brown, who did undergo surgery but is currently listed in stable condition.
A suspect was detained at the scene and is believed to be the male victim’s father.
45-year-old Narles Brown Sr. was interviewed at the Mishawaka Police Department by detectives with the Major Crimes Unit.
Narles Brown Sr. was formally charged by the Prosecutor’s Office of St. Joseph County for the Murder of Asia Phillip and Attempted Murder of Tyrees Brown, and firearm Enhancement.
An autopsy for Asia Phillips is scheduled for Thursday in Kalamazoo, MI.
Officials say there is no further threat to the community from this incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
