U.S. 12 and M 51 to shift traffic patterns in Niles for ongoing roadwork

NILES, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Transportation announced the traffic patterns of U.S. 12 and M 51 will shift starting on Friday, weather permitting.

The continuing work is part of a year-long $27 million investment to rebuild the U.S. 12/M 51 intersection.

MDOT officials say additional lanes will be reopened, helping to reduce congestion.

U.S.12 traffic will move to the newly finished westbound lanes while M 51 will be open to normal traffic lanes south of Bell Road and north of Fort Street.

There will be one lane of M 51 open in each direction between Bell Road and Fort Street while work continues.
