UPDATE: Suspect killed in shoot-out with police in Edwardsburg identified, investigation ongoing
ABC 57 UPDATE THREE: We are learning more about the suspect in the house fire and officer-involved shooting in Edwardsburg.
Public court records show Tony Artusi was charged on February 21, 2026 with two counts of Domestic Violence. as well as three counts of Assaulting, Resisting, or Obstructing an Officer.
He was also charged on February 22, 2026 with Possession of a Firearm By a Felon.
UPDATE TWO: The Cass County Sheriff's Office announced the suspect in the house fire and officer-involved shooting has been identified as 46-year-old Tony Duaine Artusi of Edwardsburg.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff's office or the Michigan State Police Niles Post.
UPDATE: The Edwardsburg Fire Department has released the following information -
Earlier today, the Edwardsburg Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the area of Davis Lake Street in Jefferson Township. While fire units were responding, the incident quickly evolved into an active law enforcement situation involving an armed subject. Based on information provided by law enforcement, fire apparatus and personnel were directed to stage at the intersection of M-62 and Davis Lake Road until the scene could be secured for firefighter safety.
During the extended staging operation, mutual aid assistance was requested to help provide coverage and support operations. Edwardsburg Fire was assisted by:

According to information released by the Cass County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the residence after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an armed subject at the home. The suspect fled the residence on foot into a wooded area north of the property, leading to a large-scale law enforcement response involving multiple agencies. The situation later escalated into an officer-involved shooting near Pine Lake Street and Harris Street following an exchange of gunfire with responding officers.
Once law enforcement secured the area, fire crews were cleared to enter the scene at approximately 3:00 PM. Firefighters extinguished what remained of the residence and conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully contained.
No firefighters were injured during the incident.
Edwardsburg Fire would like to thank all assisting agencies for their professionalism, coordination, and support during a very dynamic and challenging incident.

The incident remains under investigation by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
The Edwardsburg Fire department also reports that no firefighters were injured, and that the incident remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Sheriff Clint Roach of the Cass County Sherriff's office reports that his office received a 911 call at 12:08 p.m. from a male caller in the 29000 block of Davis Lk St, Jefferson Twp, in Cass County.
The caller stated that a man was at the house, had kicked in the front door, and was armed with a handgun. Another 911 call came in seconds later from a female at the residence stating her husband was in her house and was armed. Deputies arrived on scene and contacted both callers who had run out the back door of the residence. While speaking with the callers, it was noticed that the house was on fire.
The callers stated that they believed that the armed subject had fled North from the house into the woods. Deputies set up a perimeter around the area and requested help from other agencies. As the investigation continued officers were advised that an individual fitting the suspect's description was seen in a field off Harris St. Deputies, along with Michigan State Troopers, responded to the area and spotted the suspect on the railroad tracks. MSP Troopers attempted to contact the suspect when shots were fired.
A second call received put the suspect near Pine Lake St. and Harris St. Deputies, along with MSP Troopers, contacted the suspect in a field where an exchange of gun fire caused the suspect to become incapacitated. After determining that the suspect was nonresponsive, officers approached the suspect and began to render first aid. An ambulance arrived on scene and attempted to administer aid to the suspect who succumbed to his injuries.
All officers involved in the shooting are being investigated by the Michigan State Police 6th District Investigative Response Team. The suspect has been identified as a 45-year-old male from the Edwardsburg, Michigan area. Family has been notified.
Deputies were assisted in the investigation by Michigan State Police, Edwardsburg Township Police, Cassopolis Village Police, Pokagon Band Tribal Police, Edwardsburg Fire Department, SMACS Ambulance, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit.
