NOW: Unveiling cancelled for Solar Farm near New Carlisle due to safety concerns

SAINT JOSEPH, Ind. -- 400,000 new solar panels are pumping out energy just outside of New Carlisle.

The multi-million-dollar Honeysuckle Solar Farm was set to have a ribbon cutting and tour Thursday afternoon, until a security threat suddenly cancelled the event.

ABC57 was planning on covering the event until it was called off just after 11am.

A representative from Lightsource BP saying in an email, "Early this morning, we were informed by local authorities of a potential security issue in the area. As a precaution, Lightsource bp has decided to cancel today's Honeysuckle Solar ribbon-cutting event. The safety of our team and all attendees is our top priority”.

Empty chairs lined the site that were supposed to be full by project partners, the local farm family, and local officials.

They were planning to celebrate the 188 megawatts of solar energy generation in St. Joe County and jobs created from the partnership between Lightsource BP and South Bend Contractor, Inovateous Solar.

The Honeysuckle Solar Farm Project has faced much controversy and uproar from surrounding neighbors, but it is unsure if that had anything to do with the cancellation.

The St. Joe County Police Department let ABC57 know in an email, “County Police were called out to Honeysuckle Solar about 8:20am for assistance with a hostile former employee. Officers issued the individual a no-trespass order and he then left the site without any issues”.

It is unclear if or when the event will be rescheduled.
