Two parrots dead in Mishawaka house fire
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawaka Fire and Police Departments were called to the 500 block of South Ironwood Drive around 11:26 a.m. Tuesday morning for a structure fire.
"MPD arrived first on scene and found heavy smoke coming from [the house]," authorities said. "MFD was assisted by the South Bend Fire Department to get the fire knocked down. The fire was extinguished in a short amount of time. Sadly, two parrots did not survive the fire."
Mishawaka police say lifesaving efforts were attempted with oxygen and CPR, by SBFD and employee of the Papa John's across the street from the fire scene, but the parrots had succumbed to what appeared to be injuries from smoke inhalation.
