CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- Two paramedics from the Concord Township Fire Department were honored with the Hero Award from the Michiana Homes for Heros non-profit organization.

Christy Goodwin and Zach Demees were first responders when mother of two, Brittany Ely, woke up to severe postpartum hemorrhaging.

"Repetition is the key to success in this job, having repeating trainings like this." Said paramedic Christy Goodwin. "They came down and did training here for us, and after that training, it was definitely more the forefront of our mind that we could call for blood. Now that we have called for blood a couple of times. Now we weren't the first ones from Concord to call for blood, by any means, but the more that we have that available, the more we use it, the more it's going to be at the forefront of our mind, the quicker we're going to recognize that we need and can call for blood.

Brittany Ely, whose life was saved by these quick-thinking paramedics, has since been discharged from the hospital.
