Two men face felonies following stop and go police pursuit
PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports a trooper observed a white Audi traveling at 110 miles per hour in a construction zone in the eastbound lanes of I-94 at the 16 mile-marker around 4 a.m., Monday.
Police say the trooper then performed a traffic stop on the Audi, pulling over west of the Burns Harbor exit.
The report states as the trooper approached the car, the driver drove off at a high rate of speed, at which point the trooper initiated a pursuit.
The report then states the driver pulled over for a second time on the inside shoulder. The trooper approached when the suspect again drove away at a high rate of speed.
Police say this time, the suspect drove across all eastbound lanes and was then struck by a semi-truck.
The Audi then came to a stop on the exit ramp to Burns Harbor/Porter.
Police say the semi-truck driver was uninjured.
The trooper then attempted to take the two occupants of the Audi into custody when the driver ran back to the car.
A brief struggle ensued with the trooper before the driver was placed in handcuffs.
Police say a search of the vehicle was then performed where troopers located a fully automatic Glock 45 9mm with a switch and $15,980 in cash.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Brandan Williams of Rockford, Ill, was taken to the Porter County Jail and is preliminarily charged with Possession of a Machine Gun, a Level 5 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, a Level 6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Recklessly Operating a Vehicle in a Work Zone with Workers Present, a Class A Misdemeanor.
The passenger, identified as19-year-old Marega Yussuf of Chicago, was taken to the Porter County Jail and is charged with Possession of a Machine Gun, a Level 5 Felony.
