Two local Big Lots locations closing amid hundreds of national closures

ELKHART, Ind. -- National retail chain Big Lots has announced that stores in Elkhart and Warsaw will be closing, but a handful of other local locations will remain open for the time being.

The store's corporate offices announced after a recent earnings report that it would be closing multiple stores, now it looks like the chain will be closing roughly 300 locations, about a quarter of its 1,389 locations.

In Michigan, the Niles location is set to stay open. In Indiana, the South Bend, Michigan City, Mishawaka, Merrillville, and Portage have not announced any closures.

“We are confident that the steps we are taking will best position the company for the future as we return to our roots, focus on owning the bargain space, and deliver unmistakable value to our customers,” a Big Lots spokesperson told CNN.
