Two arrested on drug charges during traffic stop in St. Joseph County
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Two people were arrested on drug charges Sunday afternoon during a traffic stop by state troopers in St. Joseph County, according to Indiana State Police.
At 2 p.m., a state trooper pulled over a black Pontiac in the area of U.S. 31 and Kern Road after the Pontiac committed a traffic violation on northbound U.S. 31, according to reports.
The trooper allegedly smelled marijuana as he spoke with the driver and passenger, identified as 21-year-old Alaysha Rau of Fort Wayne and 22-year-old Deyquawn Fitch of South Bend, respectively.
During a search of the vehicle, troopers found approximately 30 grams of suspected marijuana and pills that were preliminarily identified as Oxycodone, reports said.
A trooper also found a loaded handgun in the front of Rau's pants, according to reports.
Rau was arrested on the following charges:
- Possession of a narcotic drug
- Dealing a narcotic drug
- Possession of marijuana
- Dealing marijuana
- Driving while suspended - prior
Fitch was arrested on the following charges:
- Possession of a narcotic drug
- Dealing a narcotic drug
- Possession of marijuana
- Dealing marijuana
- Resisting law enforcement
Both Rau and Fitch were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
