SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports officers located a stolen vehicle just before 6 p.m. Saturday and attempted a traffic stop near Clevland and Main Streets.
Deputies say the driver, 43-year-old Justin Maike, refused to comply and drove over stop sticks, entering the intersection where he struck two vehicles before leading officers on a brief pursuit.
Officers tracked the vehicle to the dead end of Peacock Circle, near Chicory Lane and Anderson Road, where Maike tried to flee on foot. He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Maike was arrested on preliminary charges of Battery Committed with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Law Enforcement x2, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Aggressive Driving and Possession of Stolen Property.
He was transported to the hospital for additional testing and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
