SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Democratic candidate Bianca Tirado has been elected as South Bend City Clerk, winning over 67% percent of voters.
"I was ready a long time ago, and now, it's official," Tirado said. "And I just can't wait to get to work and serve our residents and give council and our mayor what they deserve."
Tirado already carries out the responsibilities of clerk for the city after the South Bend Common Council hired her as a consultant for the previous clerk, Dawn Jones.
She's received significant support from Mayor James Mueller, who back in May, and again this Election Day, called Tirado his running mate. Mayor Mueller himself was just elected to a second term.
The city clerk serves as the liaison between the South Bend Common Council, the mayor and the public.
Tirado said she's thrilled to represent alongside the first-ever majority-female South Bend Common Council.
