SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The second annual In the River Challenge happened Saturday, August 31 at the East Race Waterway in South Bend.
Several teams raced two at a time to the end of the waterway. The winner received a golden paddle as a prize.
Each team paid $100 to enter and all of the proceeds will go to two charity organizations.
"We're sponsoring two charities for this event. U93 is a big partner with Ronald McDonald House Charities and so that's one side. And on the other side for Venues Parks and Arts, we're representing our Youth Scholarship Fund," said Jonathan Jones, Director of Recreation South Bend.
The event raised almost $2,000.
Jones hopes the event can continue to be held every year.
