The Northwoods League's newest baseball team: The Dune Coast Quillbacks

NEW BUFFALO, Mich. -- After receiving over 150 submissions from virtually everywhere up and down the dune coast, the Northwoods league’s 27th team will officially go by the Dune Coast Quillbacks.  

The sound of heavy machinery was ringing through the confides of Bison field at New Buffalo High School, as the Northwoods league’s newest team, the Dune Coast Quillbacks were setting up for the future.  

Co-owner of the Quillbacks, Bryan Williams believes the newly announced team name fits perfectly for the area they will be playing in.  

“We’ve heard a lot of people say, ‘well, there’s no porcupines around here,’ but if you research, the porcupines were very present in the Dunes along our shores in Southern Lake Michigan,” Williams said.  

Now that the team has their name, mascot, and colors decided, it’s time to put the 75,000 dollars they received from a Michigan Economic Development Corp grant to good use, and for Williams, it all begins and ends with the fan experience.  

“It’s going to put chairback seating behind Homeplate, a press box, down right field the line we’re going to have a party patio for corporate events,” Williams said. “We have had tremendous support from the community, which is why we can do stuff like this.”  

Williams added that the next step will involve hiring a staff, so come Opening Day in May 2027, the lineup card will be full of local Michiana talent.
