NOW: The Acorn rocks on into day three of inaugural music festival

THREE OAKS, Mich. -- The Acorn, a theater in downtown Three Oaks, Michigan are set to open up their doors Sunday at 1 p.m. for the third and final day of the inaugural Acorn Music Festival.

The festival is the first of its kind at the corset factory-turned-theater, but is run by a staff of highly trained workers with experience all around the country in audio production, musical and visual arts and performance.

The festival kicked off on Friday afternoon with five bands, including night-one headliners Alejandro Escovedo and Shemekia Copeland.

The live tunes kicked into high gear on Saturday, with a total of nine artists putting on hour-long sets throughout the day, capped off by the nationally renowned group, Cracker.

While Sunday marks the final day, The Acorn isn't slowing down, as nine more bands are set to perform throughout the day, starting at 2 p.m.

25+ year vets Son Volt will be closing out the festival Sunday night at 9 p.m.

Of the 23 artists performing across the three-day event, more than half are local musicians from the Michiana area; something that The Acorn prides itself on, according to Artistic Director, Nikki Gauthier.

"These are artists that the community might not ever have the chance to see. But it's also really important to us to give that nod to our local artists who are here working and living in our community alongside us and give them this opportunity." said Gauthier.
