Teenagers arrested during investigation into potentially stolen vehicle

ELKHART, Ind. – Two teenagers were arrested on Friday after jumping out of a potentially stolen vehicle, the Elkhart Police Department reported.

At 6 p.m., an officer on patrol saw a vehicle preparing to go south on S. 3rd Street from Harrison Street.

That vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that was reported stolen earlier in the day, reports said.

The officer observed the suspect vehicle turn east onto Chapman Avenue and continue to travel on Chapman before jumping a curb and heading towards the basketball courts for the Tolson Center.

The officer then saw three males jump out of the suspect vehicle as the vehicle continued to roll forward, eventually striking a tree, according to reports.

Officers arrested a 13-year-old male and a 14-year-old male.

The third male was not apprehended.

The juveniles were arrested for resisting law enforcement and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

This incident is still under investigation.
