Teenage driver falls asleep at the wheel resulting in head-on crash

STURGIS, Mich. -- Around 2:22 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the Sturgis Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the area of Chicago Road and Michigan Avenue for a report of a head-on crash that impacted multiple vehicles.

"Arriving units determined that a 19-year-old male, heading eastbound on Chicago Road had fallen asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line side swiping one car before hitting another vehicle head on," authorities said. "One individual was transported to Sturgis Emergency Room for minor injuries and the remainder of occupants were evaluated and released on scene."

An investigation is ongoing.
