Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour" concert film soars in local box offices

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Swifties gathered to Movies 14 this weekend to see Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour" concert film on the big screen. 

"The Eras Tour" film, debuted on Thursday, October 12, with Taylor Swift attending the premiere in Los Angeles in a sky-blue custom Oscar de la Renta gown. 

The film was originally intended to release on Friday, October 13, Taylor's favorite number, but in true Taylor fashion--always throwing in a surprise for the fans--she launched a Thursday preview instead. 

The film offers a moment of nostalgia for fans who attended Swift's live performance this summer.

Here, in Mishawaka, it was a mother-daughter day as pre-teen girls attended "The Eras Tour" film with their moms.

Fans were dressed up in Taylor Swift tour merchandise with lots of glitter and lots of pink. 

From the music, lighting, stage effects and choreography, Swift's concert wowed from all angles. 

"It's got great effects for the whole show," said Angie Garcia. "And dancers...dancers are amazing on the stage. And yeah, I just loved it all. But yeah, I would say the dancing and the light effects are cool."

"The Eras Tourfilm is also opportunity for those who didn't see Swift live to experience the musician's performance in surround sound. 

"I think people should come watch it," said Esperanza Guzman. "Especially like us. We didn't get to go to the concert. And I guess like I said a way of living it. And I think it'd be fun just like getting to sing the songs. I like watching."

Variety calls "The Eras Tour" film the second biggest October opening day ever. 

According to Variety, the film made $39 million on opening day from 3,855 North America locations, including $2.8 million from her surprise Thursday preview. 

This record grossing film rests between 2019's "Joker" ($39.3 million) and 2021's "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" ($37.4 million).

It also is the seventh biggest grossing film on opening day in 2023, ranking between "Oppenheimer"($43 million) and "The Little Mermaid"($38 million).

According to AMC, the film had already made $100 million in global advance ticket sales, a week before the movie's debut. 

For die hard Taylor Swift fans who have stood by her side for over a decade--to her newest fans, her concert film is a love letter to them all.
