KNOX, Ind. -- A man was taken to a Chicago hospital for treatment of injuries to his face and eye after being attacked during a burglary on the night of April 23.

The Starke County Sheriff's Office reports Knox police officers responded to a home in the 500 block of West Ellis Street following a 911 call stating a man had been attacked inside his residence.

Officers on scene learned the victim was suffering from a serious head injury.

The victim told police the suspect, 52-year-old Christopher Fields of North Judson, had entered his house and struck him in the head with a blunt object. After that the victim said a short physical altercation occurred.

The victim stated Fields then fled the area. Security footage from a nearby home showed the suspect vehicle and Fields, along with another man, pull up to the victim's house before leaving a short time later.

Detectives collected evidence on scene, including the object believed to have been used to strike the victim.

On April 24, police located the suspect vehicle along with the man who'd been driving it. Investigators collected more evidence from the vehicle.

After reviewing the final case report, the Starke County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Fields with Burglary resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 2 Felony, Burglary of a Dwelling, a Level 4 Felony, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, Battery resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Felony, and Theft, a Misdemeanor.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Fields with a $50,000 cash bond assigned.
