Suspect accused of killing neighbor in Benton Harbor apartment complex
At 12:11 p.m. on January 10, officers responded to an assault report at the River Terrace Apartments in Benton Harbor.
When they arrived, they found a man lying unconscious on the floor.
The man was identified as 65-year-old Gerald Harper.
Harper was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The investigation found that Harper was involved in an altercation with his next-door neighbor before he was killed, reports said.
The argument escalated into an attack, in which Harper's neighbor, identified as 50-year-old Aisha Williams, allegedly assaulted Harper in the hallway, knocking him to the ground.
Williams was found at the scene and arrested without incident.
Williams was charged with open murder and will appear in court on January 26.
