BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.-- At Coloma Elementary on Friday, a woman named Kelly Severin kissed a pig in front of cheering crowds.
Kelly is the Principal at Coloma Elementary, and she puckered up as the reward - chosen by the students - because the school surpassed the goal of reading for 150,000 minutes in one month.
Principal Severin told us "So I kissed a pig today! The kids were challenged for reading month to read 150,000 minutes, and that was at-home minutes and minutes read in class, and in total, they surpassed 150,000 minutes with no problem. And I think they broke 200,000 because they really wanted me to kiss a pig.
They could choose between me racing in a hamster ball with another staff member, dressing like a princess for a day, camping out in the hallway for the day, or kissing a pig. And kiss a pig was like, they went crazy the day they found out that that was one of the options. We started with an assembly just like this. So, they hands-down chose this, and they all got to vote. And yeah, they've been dying waiting for this to happen."
Additionally, students with the most minutes read were able to pet the pig.
