St. Joseph paid parking brings in $105k over summer, city commissioners say

ABC57

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- At this week's St. Joseph City Commissioners Meeting, the summer paid parking program was revealed to have raised a net revenue of about $105, 000 from June 12 to Sept. 7.

The paid parking affected 175 spots on the streets between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Commissioners note 80 percent of the parking revenue will be reinvested downtown, while the other 20 percent will be placed in the city's general fund.

Officials said the city sold a large amount of $50 passes. It was also noted that out of the approximate 8,000 city residents, 5,400 signed up for the free parking passes.

The city also added more 30-minute parking spots this year.

St. Joseph has plans to collect more feedback regarding how the year went for residents before the 2027 paid parking is rolled out.

At the meeting, commissioners also discussed the failed rollout for paid parking in 2025, which cost $422,000 for them.

For 2026, they had to pay to change signage and get DDA compliant which added onto costs. Officials say even with these costs, the city has netted $177,000 over two years.
