St. Joseph County Police investigate swatting call at county councilwoman's home
St. Joseph County Council ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department confirms that officers received a call to the home of County Councilwoman Amy Drake for a welfare check.
According to SJCPD, the Department of Child Services received a report that there were children home alone and asked police to help respond. Both departments left the home, then later Drake reportedly told the Sheriff she believed she was the victim of a swatting incident. Police then returned to the home to check on Drake's family.
The St. Joseph County Police Department says after Drake's husband spoke to officers through the door and confirmed everyone was okay, officers left once again.
In an email sent to ABC57 News, Drake says the call to her home happened while she was still at the County Council meeting around 2 a.m. on Wednesday while a data center rezoning discussion was in progress. "The frightening and unwarranted middle-of-the-night disruption was done by bad actors who wanted to harass my family and intimidate me and my vote," said Drake. "Whoever did this put my children and family at substantial risk, traumatized my kids, and deserves to be prosecuted."
