Southwest Michigan men arrested in connection to Kalamazoo County murder
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department has announced the arrests of two southwest Michigan men on charges of murder stemming from the death of 33-year-old Lashaun Keith after his body was found on Nov. 3, 2022.
Although Keith's body was found in a field in Genva Township in Van Buren County, detectives determined that he was assaulted and killed in Kalamazoo County and his body was then transported into Van Buren County.
"After a thorough investigation, two suspects were ultimately developed," Michigan State Police said. "A copy of the final report, including forensic evidence, was reviewed by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors Office who authorized and issued arrest warrants for both suspects."
Twenty-nine-year-old Bryan Christopher Whimbley from Hartford, and 22-year-old Zachary Stephen Trainor from Watervliet were both arrested on charges of open murder.
Trainor was also charged with the removal of a body without medical examiner permission.
Whimbley was arrested on June 18 and Trainor was arrested June 22.
Both men have both been arraigned in the 8th District Court of Kalamazoo and remain in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
