South Haven man dead, Rochester couple injured in two-vehicle crash, ISP investigating
ABC 57 MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police Peru District reports it's investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash which also left a Rochester couple injured on US 31 in Miami County Wednesday morning.
Police say at around 11 a.m., Wednesday, a 2021 Lexus, driven by 88-year-old Larry Durham of Rochester, was traveling west on S.R. 16 when he attempted to cross US 31.
Durham's 85-year-old wife was in the vehicle as well.
The report states for an undetermined reason, Durham traveled into the path of a 2019 Honda CRV, driven by 79-year-old Joseph Wilhelm of South Haven, Mich., traveling south on US 31.
Wilhelm's 78-year-old wife was a passenger at the time.
The vehicles collided and came to a stop on the southwest side of the intersection of US 31 and S.R. 16.
Police say Wilhelm was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mrs. Wilhelm was airlifted to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Durhams were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
ISP states the investigation is ongoing.
Neither alcohol nor narcotics are suspected of contributing to this crash, according to police.
Wilhelm's next of kin has been notified.
