MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A South Bend woman has officially been sentenced after she pleaded guilty of federal felony embezzling over $37,000 from the Mishawaka Post Office during her time as the Lead Sales and Service Associate at the office.

Forty-two-year-old Jaterria M. Davis, of South Bend, was sentenced by the U.S. District Court to probation and she is required to repay the $37,023 that was stolen for charges that are considered federal felonies.

According to documents in the case, Davis was employed as the Lead Sales and Service Associate at the United States Post Office in Mishawaka.

"Her duties included gathering the daily deposits of cash and checks paid to the post office for postal goods and services that were to be forwarded on to the post office for deposit," authorities said.

"However, from on or about July 20, 2024, through August 14, 2024, Davis violated her position of trust by embezzling for her own use, $37,023 in cash deposits paid to the post office."

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service-Office of Inspector General.
