South Bend secures $291M for affordable housing in the city
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend secured their 11th grant in just the past few years, going towards affordable housing across South Bend. These developments will come in the form of apartments, townhomes, or houses for residents to rent.
Not only will these come downtown but also to the northwest, west, south and east sides of the city. These are intentionally spread out across the city to ensure affordable housing in South Bend.
These units will be based of income, so if a renter is making between 50 and 80 percent below the median income, they are eligible. Then their rent would be no more than 30 percent of your monthly take home income. The goal of these developments is to bring more people to the city of South Bend after losing 30,000 residents since the 1960s.
