SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend received its first naloxone vending machine at the St. Joseph County Jail on Tuesday.
The vending machine dispenses free Narcan inhalers that can help prevent opioid overdoses and potentially save lives during an emergency.
“Everyone in the community should have Narcan. Just like all of us should have a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit and other emergency supplies, all of us should have Narcan,” said John Horsley, Oaklawn’s Vice President of Adult Services.
According to the CDC, the number of deaths involving opioid overdoses in Indiana have increased 32 percent over the past year.
