South Bend Police launching new campaign for unsolved homicides, offering rewards of up to $2,500
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department is partnering with Michiana Crime Stoppers to launch a new program to generate more tips on three unsolved homicides.
The program will focus on Alexis Morales, Johnnie Lee Johnson and Dionte Williams, all of whom were killed in 2022.
These campaigns will be delivered via mobile ads and will be visible on all cell phones that travel through the immediate areas where the homicides took place.
All ads will offer a direct option to submit an anonymous tip to Michiana Crime Stoppers.
Alexis Morales
During the month of April, Crime Stoppers will run a series of ads for 27-year-old Alexis Morales, who was found dead inside a vehicle on April 19, 2022, in the 400 block of S. Kaley St. in South Bend.
Morales' five-month-old son was also found in the vehicle but was not seriously harmed.
Morales and her son had been reported missing in Elkhart County after they were last seen on April 12 leaving South Bend's Kelly Park.
Johnnie Lee Johnson
In May, Crime Stoppers will run a series of ads for Johnnie Lee Johnson, a 53-year-old man who was shot and killed on May 12, 2022, in the 1200 block of Huey St. in South Bend.
According to police, several people witnessed the shooting but none have come forward with information that could lead to an arrest.
Dionte Williams
Throughout June, Crime Stoppers will run campaigns for 28-year-old Dionte Williams, who was shot and killed on June 9, 2022, in the Laurel Woods Apartments off of Auten Road in South Bend.
The suspect in Williams' case is described as a black male wearing dark clothing, police said. He was seen leaving the area in a white car driven by a white female.
“Our detectives have never stopped investigating these cases. However, someone out there may hold that one missing piece that could help us solve these homicides and give these grieving families the justice they deserve,” said Lt. Kayla Miller, who oversees homicide investigations for South Bend Police and serves as coordinator for Michiana Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest in a homicide case.
