SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Today, June 20, The South Bend Medical Foundation held its 17th annual Fallen Officer Blood Drive.
ABC57 spoke to some of those who came out to give blood, asking what the blood drive means for them personally.
"Just means we're doing something for the community and doing something for our brothers and sisters in case something ever happens to any of us. Obviously, bloods in need all the time. Just a special moment here having it for the law enforcement and public safety people," states Lt. Scott Hanley, Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Tribal Police Department.
Every county in the Hoosier state is hosting a blood drive for fallen officers, as this is something that Indiana does every year in June.
"We're doing it for the fallen officers that lost their lives in the line of duty. So, the state of Indiana does this in the month of June. So, the entire state of Indiana, every county hosts blood drives for those fallen officers and those remembrance of those officers that you know lost their lives," says South Bend Medical Foundation Nurse Tina Kedik.
