South Bend man sentenced to over three years in prison for possession of firearm

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A South Bend man was sentenced to over three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.  

Daviae O'Shay McKinstry, 25, was sentenced after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

McKinstry’s DNA was found on a firearm found near the scene of a crime in Elkhart on November 3, 2018, according to case documents.

One of McKinstry’s previous felony convictions includes a battery for his involvement in a shooting incident, according to reports.

McKinstry was sentenced to 37 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release, reports said.
