South Bend man sentenced following guilty pleas to multiple robberies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – 21-year-old Jose Salazar of South Bend was sentenced to 57 months in prison after entering guilty pleas for Hobbs Act Robbery and Attempted Hobbs Act Robbery.

Salazar went to a gas station near his apartment, demanding money and displaying an apparent handgun. Then, the next day, Salazar robbed a different gas station and obtained cash.

Salazar then attempted to rob a tobacco store on the same day of the second robbery, but the employees did not give him any cash.

Police detained Salazar a short time later. Police also recovered Salazar’s weapon, which turned out to be a BB gun.

After being charged and posting bond, Salazar attempted to rob one of the gas stations by displaying a knife but was unsuccessful.

Police arrested Salazar again and he confessed to his crimes.
