South Bend International Airport to conduct annual live-fire training

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The St. Joseph County Airport Authority Department of Public Safety will be carrying out the annual Federal Aviation Administration fire training on Monday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The training consists of live burns on the northwest corner of the airfield at South Bend International Airport.

This safety training is mandated by the FAA under FAR Part 139 for any entity specializing in Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting. 12 members of the SJCAA will work together to put out the training fires.

The annual fire training ensures that the team can put out the large fuel fires quickly and efficiently, Mike Ornat, SJCAA Department of Public Safety said.
