South Bend Firefighters support wounded warriors
For the 12th year, the South Bend Fire Department is hosting the ultimate Notre Dame Football weekend for a group of veterans
The special weekend for a group of 20 veterans starts Friday morning with a ceremony honoring wounded warriors.
South Bend firefighters and Mayor Pete Buttigieg will be among those taking part in the ceremony to temporarily rename the intersection of Michigan and Washington streets to Wounded Warrior Way.
And Friday morning’s ceremony is only the beginning of an action packed weekend for these veterans.
Helping Hands for Freedom and the Wounded Warrior Project are working with the fire department and paying for game tickets to this weekend’s Notre Dame Football game for the veterans and their caregivers
Friday night South Bend Fire will hold a cookout for the group and Saturday the veterans will be treated to a pre-game tailgate party on Twyckenham Drive before the start of Navy versus Notre Dame at 3:30.
