South Bend Fire Department investigating fire on Prairie Avenue

UPDATE: On Monday, May 13, the South Bend Fire department provided an update on the weekend fire on Prairie Avenue.

Fire crews say that upon arrival, they were met with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the single-story home.

"There was an initial report of persons entrapped in the home. Additional ambulances were dispatched," authorities said. "The residents were found safely outside the home with no injuries to report. The fire was brought under control within the first 15 minutes and hot spots checked for."

Officials say the Red Cross was requested for the two adults on scene and there were no reports of injuries to any firefighters.

"The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. More information may be released in the future as it becomes available," authorities said.

ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- St. Joseph County Dispatch confirms the South Bend Fire Department is on the scene of a structure fire of a single-story home in the 1600 block of Prairie Avenue in South Bend. The call came in around 6:50 p.m.

The Fire Department has confirmed no one was inside at the time of the fire. They are investigating the cause of the fire.
