South Bend barbershops hosting health screenings April 29

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Four South Bend barbershops are hosting free health screenings for community members on April 29 as part of the Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative.

From 8 a.m. to noon, the following barbershops will be open to free body mass index, blood pressure and blood glucose screenings:

  • 618 N. Olive St. South Bend, IN 46628
• Cutrageous
  • 2921 W. Sample St. South Bend, IN 46619
• RG’s Barber Shop
  • 2210 Miami St. South Bend, IN 46613
• Wigfall Barber Shop
  • 1131 W. Washington St. South Bend, IN 46601

Participants can also get health education and resources during the event.

The initiative is designed to educate Black men about their health in environments they can trust.

According to the Indiana Department of Health, Black men have the highest mortality rate of any demographic in Indiana.

They also have higher instances of prostate cancer compared to other ethnic groups in the state, the health department reported.
