SLOW DOWN: Road conditions on US12 causing slide-offs Thursday morning

Jymmy Wheat

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- We have received multiple reports of vehicles sliding off of U.S. 12 in Berrien County Thursday morning, including one person who says they were forced off the roadway when a vehicle entered the wrong lane of traffic.

"While road conditions are horrible, to not try to jump in front of traffic going from one direction of U.S.12 to the other (or any other road for that matter)," said driver Jymmy Wheat. "Be more considerate."

Wheat was driving near the intersection of U.S. 12 and Weaver Road in Bertrand Township, near Buchanan, Mich. when he slid off the highway and down an embankment.

"If you know you caused an accident, no matter how minor, have some decency and check on the person and stick around to make sure they're taken care of," Wheat said.
