CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Police Department responded to the report of a personal injury crash at approximately 2:28 p.m. today near the intersection of U.S. 12 and Birch Road in Porter Township.

Initial investigating shows 62-year-old Martin Lee Wheeler of Elkhart was traveling westbound on U.S. 12, when he lost control of his motorcycle.

Wheeler then left the roadway traveling at a high rate of speed on the north side of U.S. 12, where he fell off his bike into a nearby ditch.

At the time of the crash Wheeler was not wearing a helmet, he was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

This incident is still under investigation.
