UPDATE: Shooting in Berrien County leaves one dead, one injured
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.-- UPDATE TWO: The Berrien County Sheriff's Office reports Rigoberto Gomez was arraigned in Berrien County Trial Court Monday, on charges including Homicide/Open Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and three firearms charges.
Gomez's bond was set at $1 million.
Police have identified second shooting victim as 39-year-old Leonardo Demarco, of Eau Claire.
UPDATE: The victim in this incident was Chad Nathen Medlin, 36 years old, from Benton Harbor.
Rigoberto Gomez, from Eau Claire was arrested at the jail in connection with this incident.
This case continues to be investigated.
ORIGINAL: A shooting early Saturday morning at the intersection of Main and Elm streets in Eau Claire left one man dead and another injured, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 12:43 a.m. on Nov. 2, deputies, with assistance from Berrien Springs Police, Michigan State Police, Benton Harbor City K9, and Medic 1, responded to the scene. Authorities found two male victims.
The first, suffering life-threatening injuries, was unresponsive when deputies arrived. A second male victim had non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Spectrum Lakeland Health Hospital, where the first victim was pronounced dead.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, thanks to witness accounts. The suspect was located and taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Berrien County Jail on multiple charges.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
Investigation is still ongoing.
