Sex offender arrested for failing to register, living next to daycares
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- After several citizen tips were received by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan City Police Department, a sex offender was arrested in La Porte County for not being registered in the county and living close to several daycare facilities.
Authorities say 42-year-old Nathan P. Dennis was residing at an address in the 300 Block of Lafayette Street in Michigan City without having properly registered as required by the state.
"Detective Evan Doperalski found that Dennis is a convicted sex offender through the state of Michigan and was not registered to reside in La Porte County, and the residence he was residing at was within close proximity to several daycare facilities which is prohibited," authorities said.
A warrant was issued for Dennis on one count of felony Sex Offender Registry Violation, and, on Dec. 27, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (FAST) along with members of the La Porte County Drug Task Force arrested Dennis without incident.
He was taken to the jail, processed, and posted a cash bond of $755.
