Several road closures in Berrien County for powerline repairs

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Berrien County Road Department announced via Facebook that there are several roads closed throughout the county for American Electric Power related repairs as of 8 a.m., Thursday.

Officials say more locations with closures are possible, but right now there are a few the major ones they're aware of.

These will be extended closures while AEP clears the scene.

Motorists are asked to seek alternative routes until the roads have reopened.

Officials remind the public not to approach downed utility lines, but to call 911 to report them.

Current road closures:

  • Hollywood Road (Royalton Township) between Marquette Woods Road and Glenlord remains closed from Wednesday night.
  • Eaman Road (Hagar Township) is closed between Lynch Road and Maple Lane
  • Crystal Road (Benton Township) between Britain Avenue and Highland Avenue
  • Beechwood Circle (Watervliet Township) off Forest Beach Road

Officials say if you are traveling the roads, do so with extreme caution and be aware of possible unexpected obstacles such as downed lines, unsecured items or limbs and tree debris.

The road department states they're seeing snow drifting, which is resulting in roads becoming iced over, even following being serviced Thursday morning.
