Sen. Mike Bohacek talks redistricting, responds to Trump's use of offensive term against Tim Walz

Indiana Sen. Mike Bohacek

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana Senator Mike Bohacek made a statement via Facebook in response to President Donald Trump calling Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz an offensive term for people with disabilities.

In his statement Bohacek revealed he has a daughter with Down Syndrome.

In addition to discussing the insult, Bohacek stated he will be voting no to redistricting Indiana's congressional map, adding, "perhaps he [Trump] can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority."

Bohacek's full statement is as follows:

"Many of you have asked my position on redistricting.  I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter.  Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome.  This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences.  I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority."
