Seitz Park officially opens, showcasing its new renovations.
SOUTH BEND, Ind.– Seitz Park celebrated its reopening with a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier tonight. The renovation features a new concession stand, concert stage, and raised riverwalk.
The park is a central location for South Bend’s community, and one man’s vision helped fuel the renovations.
Jim Seitz was the South Bend parks department superintendent for eighteen years. His legacy can be found all over South Bend in locations like The Ice Box, The East Race, Coveleski Stadium, and Potawatomi Zoo. Now, it has been continued with Seitz Park.
James Seitz, Jim’s son, spoke at the ceremony to honor his late father and share his hopes for the park.
“He wanted to make sure that the City of South Bend would build public places for people to gather, enjoy, and make friends,” said James.
That hope came to life with Seitz Park, especially with the renovation.
“It represents what my father stood for,” said James.
The park’s concert series kicked off tonight, and has seventeen more scheduled for the season.
“We have ten grandchildren, of all ages,” said James. “You can come to a place like this and all the ages will enjoy it.”
Concerts are every Thursday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and every Sunday 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
