Secretary of State office in Benton Harbor to close for remodeling July 29

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Secretary of State office in Benton Harbor will be closed for a week during a remodeling project starting Monday, July 29. 

State officials say most residents can still go to the Secretary of State's online portal to complete most transactions during the construction or anytime. 

The office will be closed the week of July 29 through Aug. 2 and will reopen for normal service at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5.

"The project includes reconstruction of the counters at the office and electrical updates," state officials said. "Self-service stations provide instant registration, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions, and offer nine language options, including Spanish. The nearest machine is located in the Meijer store at 1920 Pipestone Rd. in Benton Harbor."

Those who need to come into an office for Secretary of State services during the remodel can schedule a visit to the closest alternative office online or by calling 888-767-6424.

The next closest offices would be 110 E. Main St. in Niles and 32849 Red Arrow Hwy. in Paw Paw.

"Both offices are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Wednesdays, when the hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.," officials said.
