Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana launches 'Wellness Wagon' at Memorial Hospital

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana launched the "Wellness Wagon" program Friday for the Special Care Obstetrics Unit located at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

The program provides snacks and personal items to families receiving care there.

"You know, historically, there really hasn't been anything like this. So, we're excited that we're able to have this as a new program for them to just feel like they can, you know, kind of get through that experience in the hospital, because nobody likes to be in the hospital if they don't have to be," said Kierstin Eifler, CEO of RMHC of Michiana.

Officials say the program was made possible in part by the support of Living in Yellow, a life and style blog launched by Erin Schrader in 2011.

Schrader utilized RMHC Michiana’s services in 2024 when her son, Crew, was born at Beacon Children’s Hospital.

Jen Tonkovich, Director of Women, Children, and Spiritual Care Services at Memorial Hospital, said, "Bringing these services in, having something for them to do, providing activities, providing some things to pamper themselves with really helps improve their overall mental health and wellbeing while they're here for these long lengths of stay."
