UPDATE: Deputy identified in officer-involved shooting that left Rochester man dead, ISP continue investigation

ROCHESTER, Ind. -- UPDATE: The Fulton County Sheriff's Office has identified Senior Deputy Ryan J. Haney as the deputy who discharged his firearm on Saturday while responding to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Monroe Street.

Haney is a seven-year veteran with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

No additional information will be released as the Indiana State Police continue to investigate.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Indiana State Police reports they've been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting by the Rochester Police Department and the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

ISP's preliminary investigation revealed on Saturday, Nov. 23, at around 10:48 a.m., members of the RPD and Fulton County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Monroe Street for a reported domestic disturbance involving a firearm.

Officers say they arrived at the home and a man identified as 37-year-old Steven T. Harding was located inside, armed with a firearm, and pointing it in the direction of the officers.

An officer and deputy discharged their weapons, striking Harding. Despite life-saving measures, Harding succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A notification to his family has been made.

There were no officers injured in the incident. The officer and deputy involved in this shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

This is the standard procedure for the Rochester Police Department and Fulton County when an officer is involved with a shooting.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further Information will be released at this time.
