ABC 57 UPDATE 6:31 p.m.: With assistance from the Porter County Bomb Squad and the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department K9 Division, a complete sweep of Walmart was conducted.
No bomb or credible threat was found.
The area has been deemed safe, and the store has resumed normal business operations.
The Detective Bureau has continued its investigation and has determined that the original threat was the result of a swatting call.
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports officers responded to the Walmart Supercenter at 5780 Franklin St. around 3 p.m., Wednesday for a bomb threat.
Police secured the area and began a coordinated response.
Authorities say the situation is ongoing and the public is urged to avoid the area while police investigate.
MCPD stated, "Our top priority is the safety of all residents and first responders. We ask for patience and cooperation as this developing situation unfolds."
