BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- All six petitions against two elected officials in Benton Harbor got rejected by the Berrien County Elections Commission today.
Both Mayor Marcus Muhammad and 2nd Ward Commissioner Satanna Warren were facing recall petitions over their votes to rehire City Manager Alex Little back in December, the third time he'd held that position over the years.
A hearing was held this morning, where the judge found multiple errors, rejecting them on technical grounds and because of spelling mistakes, including the title mayor.
"It's not a factual identification of the individual, that's not the name and that's not the position because that position of m-a-y-e-r does not exist," stated Berrien County Judge Mabel Mayfield.
Judge Mabel Mayfield, who chairs the election board rejecting those petitions during a hearing at the Berrien County Courthouse in Saint Joseph.
We're told the petitioners have refiled, with corrections, and there is another clarity hearing set for next month.
