Pulaski County Commissioners speak on data center moratorium
PULASKI COUNTY, Ind. — ABC57 sat down with two of the three Pulaski County Commissioners on Monday to discuss a 12 Month Data center moratorium set to be voted on tonight.
Commissioners confirmed that no plans for a data center development have been shared with them.
The reason behind the moratorium is to put safeguards in place in the event that a development is brought to them in the future.
Currently, there are no ordinances regarding data centers in the county ordinance and code.
The moratorium, if passed, will give the county advisory council time to adjust the ordinance language to address data centers.
Commissioner Street hopes that ordinances will address setbacks as well as power and water concerns in the area.
District one commissioner, Jennifer Knebel, says that a data center may not be right for the county at this time.
She says the county has already been stretched thin by the ongoing Mammoth Solar project and adding any data center developments in the future may further that strain.
Commissioner Street says that he would be open to hearing about a development if it were proposed.
